Clean building and quiet neighbors
Pros
- Super and porters run a tight ship. Building is kept clean and garbage is taken out regularly. Honestly the cleanest building I’ve lived in. - Neighbors are quiet and generally nice - Laundry room has big, clean machines that work well and you can recharge your laundry card using a credit card (I never have cash so this was a nice perk) - The super is a really nice guy who is accessible, responsive, does good work, and is always friendly - Apartment was affordable but small. It was renovated before we moved in and they used higher grade material for the kitchen countertops and cabinets than I’ve seen elsewhere in NYC at a similar price point - 2 blocks away from Stop n Shop and not far from several other good grocery stores (Netcost) - Bus that takes you straight to the beach stops right in front of the building - Parking isn’t bad, especially around the elementary school 1 block away
Cons
- Location isn’t great. 15 minute walk to the train and the building is facing Ocean Avenue so noise is to be expected. Also a pretty dead part of the neighborhood and not a particularly charming street - Long commute if you work in Manhattan - It was clearly originally a 2 bedroom converted to a 3 bedroom where all the rooms were pretty small. - We had at least one roach infestation but it was effectively solved after the building exterminator visited - Small dogs are allowed and we lived next door to someone who had a dog that was known to have barking attacks. Wasn’t excessive but could definitely be annoying - We had a few packages stolen
Advice to the owners
As far as my experience, most of what they should have done they were doing!
Could’ve been great but it wasn’t
Pros
The guys who work at the building clean the hallway/elevator regularly. Looks clean from the outside. Super is responsive and quickly sends people over if I have any issues.
Cons
The building clearly has a bedbug issue. I’ve only been here for less than a year, and have not had this issue in any of my other nyc apartments. I’ve received four treatments, safe to say this place is not working for me.
Advice to the owners
If you’re going to exterminate one person’s apartment, you should be required to exterminate the surrounding apartments. Sadly my neighbors are older folks, and they are less likely to report any problems and will just live with them. I am not strong enough to live in fear of getting bit at night.
