Owner John Cielepak is negligent and actively engaging in illegal behavior
Former Tenant
Pros:
Sweet building but old. Great location.
Cons:
- Apartment completely flooded during our lease in 2023 leaving one tenant's room unlivable due to rampant mold and poor air quality. This was not fixed throughout our time and on top of that owner John Cielepak refused to adjust rent despite the unlivable conditions.
- Apartment was not cleaned prior to our move in and was covered in dirt, dog hair, bugs, and holes in the wall.
- The dryer did not work and owner John Cielepak instead of buying a new unit told tenants to just "dry their clothes through three full cycles".
- Upon moving out the landlord went radio silent and would not respond to any emails in regards to our security deposit. After filing a complaint with the AG office he sent us an email 5 months after moving out saying that we would receive a security deposit that was 27% of what we were owed. He created a bogus itemized list of "deductions and infractions" that he said accounted for the reduction in the security deposit. This is illegal as landlords are required to send such a list within two weeks of move out and we also have email proof of him confirming that he did a walk through and the apartment was up to standard.
In short, the Cielepak's are scum. They will try to scam you out of your security deposit and will refuse to fix anything in a building that is clearly declining.
Advice to owner:
Be a decent person and give back your tenants their security deposit

Great location but dirty
Former Tenant
Pros:
Great location, parking spot
Cons:
Neighbors in the second floor make a lot of noise until very late at night. The place is very drafty and runs up electric and has bills. Backyard is infested with rats and nobody would replace the rat traps. Shared laundry leaves clothes dirty and costs $2 for 30 min of drying(typically $6-$8 to do a single load. Italian festival is very annoying and brings a lot of rats/roaches to the street. Hallways dirty and roaches always seen in the entrance.
Advice to owner:
Fix the front door. Reduce the charge for laundry. Hire pest control
