Terrible landlord
Former Tenant
Pros:
Spacious
Charming
Beautiful hardwood floors
Great sunlight
Safe neighborhood
Cons:
When I lived at this location, the landlord continously harassed my wife and I about our cooking. Specifically, the building owner's wife would call at all hours of the night and day to complain about the spices we used to cook with. She even went as far as coming downstairs to give me advice on how I should brown my onions and garlic. Please don't tell me how to live my life and mind your own damn business - you are a pest, Teresa!

The building owners are an older couple who spend half the year in Italy, while their daughter and their daughter's creepy boyfriend live upstairs to "take care of the place" while the elders are away in Italy. The daughter doesn't respond to anything in a timely manner and the boyfriend is a complete nuisance - he's more like a thug who comes downstairs to enforce the "law" while the elders are away.

Dude needs to get a life and buzz off - he's not an owner, so don't listen to anything he tells you. He definitely has Napoleon Complex and tries to talk tough to make up for his height. He came down one time to try and tell me there's a curfew, and I just brushed him right off. With all due respect, Rob, you're a nobody at that residence. You need to calm down and butt out of other people's lives.

Our first year into the lease, the building's heating system died completely and it took the daughter 10 days before she even took action to get a repair company to come out and take a look - this was in December 2019, so we were in the dead of winter freezing our butts off. The daughter had the gall to tell us that she was also out of heat upstairs to try and sympathize with us, but we later found out her boiler was working just fine and that she had heat the entire time while we suffered - total liar. You can't trust these folks.

The worst experience was Thanksgiving 2019 - the kitchen ceiling caved in due to a leak upstairs in the landlord's apartment. They paid a cheap plumber to do molding work in their unit years prior and the idiot drove a nail into a pipe, which caused the leak. There was water and dry wall all over the corner of our kitchen, and it took them an entire month and a half to get it repaired.

AVOID THESE PEOPLE AND THE APARTMENT AT ALL COSTS!!!

They will have you sign the lease that says utilities are included, but when you go to resign the lease they'll sneak in a "overuse clause", which gives them the right to tax you for overusing utilities.

OH! There's a basement neighbor, which the landlords won't tell you about on purpose. It's because the landlord illegally converted the basement into another unit, which he rents out. If the landlord tries to give you crap about "overuse", just disregard it, because the first floor and basement units are all running off the same gas and electricity meter. They have no way to figure out "overuse" rate in any case. Complete lame-o's!!
Advice to owner:
Please mind your own damn business and stop trying to squeeze money out of your tenants. You're not part of the mob, even though you probably think you are. Your lame scare tactics don't work. Just calm down and butt out of other people's lives.
