THE PRICE OF GENTRIFICATION IS TOO DAMN HIGH
Former Tenant
Pros:
Great neighborhood great space
Very cozy closet space and the neighbors are for the most part considerate.
Cons:
An African landlord contributing to the gentrification of a historically black neighborhood... the irony.

Was the previous tenant in floor one and got price gouged , screwed over and eventually evicted with my 9 month old son because two other tenants that I signed joint lease a year before COVID ( 2 other college aged girls one of whom sold/did drugs with the 3rd floor tenant and got arrested for domestic violence) was allowed to move out BEFORE the lease ended!!

The LL NEVER pursued them for the money owed, leaving me with a 3500+ bill and had the unmitigated gall to say the price was increasing by 1000 dollars more.

The LL was so delusional to think that she would see all that money from a single person Never reached out or communicated to Negotiate or warn me of legal repercussions and when I opted to sublet the other rooms to roommates To get the Rent paid she REFUSED
to create a lease for them, All in order to quote keep up with the market price and GENTRIFICATION the neighborhood.

I was taken to court several times to try to reach negotiations to adjust the price for the apartment But this typical Nigerian scammer ended up getting scammed herself by me refusing to leave.

no one has money to just uproot because someone else's bad decisions ..but she complained to the court that she was going broke on the account of having to pay her own mortgage out of pocket.

If miss Rockefeller ( Who also owns a building on Monroe one block over) had just agreed to make a lease with my roommates..she would have been paid all of her money and I would not be out of a home with my 9 month old so I ended up having to take public assistance and taking a pro bono attorney who SUCKED. Did not advocate for me and took the side of the landlord by suggesting that I should pay by a certain date or move knowing that I was low-income.

The LL was awarded $47k from the state through ERAP which she kept but was told by the court that I could not afford the rent moving forward.. yes folks Even after offering to have a roommate move in help me get caught up and actually PAY the rent asked for moving forward...

Was blamed for the rat infestation because of HER poor trash receptacle maintenance. Just about all of the neighbors have appropriate trash disposal bins but somehow I was to blame for the rats for not storing the trash properly In already contaminated and half full Trash cans By the landlord and hostile neighbors in #3.

Classon Avenue Is the main one way road that Police cars and fire trucks and ambulances seem to take..there is a lot of blaring noise at random From the Sirens.

Sits gated just around the corner from a rehab/halfway house and you can hear the crackhead's swearing in the middle of the night random drug dealers and prostitutes mingled in with the yuppy white kids in the neighborhood having their main character moment in NYC..you know typical Brooklyn..
It's like you're paying to live like you're in the Hamptons but still exposed to typical NYC...Don't even give me started on the parking in this area.

If the landlord offers you a joint lease Option Or if you're a family looking to move in I'd look elsewhere. It's likely she'll make up an excuse that's bogus to not return your deposit.. it's not a family oriented environment, The landlord is greedy, conniving..acquiesces to and smiles in the face of white people (white people be careful) who can afford to pay her insane demands and discriminates and dis likes and disrespectful to the people who MADE BEDFORD STUYVESANT the rich cultural neighborhood it is and consistently have to tell you their lives matter.

My unit in particular had a very high tenant turnover rate. I would get various pieces of mail-in my mailbox from previous tenants who were college grads/ students and young professionals a tell tale sign of the VICTIMS who are marketed to and the insanity they were subjected to.

It's all around not worth it to live in ANYBODYS private property. Paying thousands a month and possibly millions a year for something you'll never own to make someone else wealthy makes no sense. Especially where the LL is allowed to be a manipulative tyrant.
Advice to owner:
Learn the local laws About tenants rights, 311, you know basic landlord stuff you should know before trying to Collect peoples money to pay YOUR mortgage.. curb your greed, I could not go your country and behave with the locals the wzy you do, have more respect for the people who made it possible for you to own property there... if you can't afford to Pay for and maintain your own property don't be a landlord
