Great access at the expense of noise
Former Tenant
Pros:
Room size was decent, fairly new renovation. Finished roof was fun to throw parties on. Living room and kitchen were spacious - lots of natural light. Every bedroom had a window. Had a great time volunteering in the community garden next door. Great access to a lot of restaurants, bars, groceries and parks. Property owner was very helpful and understanding - would get repairs done as soon as possible. Despite the cons below, I would recommend if you can deal with the noise.
Cons:
Noise. It's a reality of the city, but being on the corner of Nostrand it is especially amplified since there are no other buildings to insulate the noise from. There is a fire station a block away; you can imagine the blaring sirens rattling your skull at random hours day and night. Not to mention the biker gangs roving down Nostrand and up Bedford. Saw many police stops right on the corner. Random people from the neighborhood would hang out on the stoop and deal drugs; a person was shot on the doorstep once. Heating was a bit whack - the thermostat was in the hallway - the heaters in the rooms would slowly roast you alive in the winter. Slight problem with ants in the summer since the building is next to a garden.
Advice to owner:
Great apartment and management.
