Plenty of broken things
Former Tenant
Pros:
Location to L and M lines, plenty of food options
Cons:
Broken elevators, bad water pressure/no water without warning, broken laundry, flood-prone (which is why basement smells like mold and mildew).

Cons:
Many leaks and plumbing issues in bathroom; pest issues; broken and dysfunctional amenities, unresponsive building team, poor temperature control in rooms (below 50 degrees in bedrooms in winter)
Advice to owner:
Fix it

Gentrified Bushwick building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Beautiful views of eastern brooklyn/queens. Tons of amenities. Close to transportation.
Cons:
Lived on the 8th floor while renting from a service called AYA. One night there was a severe storm which caused massive flooding in Bushwick in August 2021 (rain/sewer water coming up to your waist, trash floating in the streets and only hoods of cars visible). Natural disaster? For sure. Did the buidling and AYA handle it well? No.
No water to shower (for a month), no heat, no elevator service, no laundry or gym for MONTHS. My roommates and I found ourselves walking up and down to the eighth floor at least twice a day and you better hope you don’t need to make a grocery run.
What’s worse, is that there was absolutely NO responsiveness and no communication from building management or AYA. When we sought to decrease our monthly rent due to not even being able to shower, AYA was unresponsive and even went to “suggest” (threaten) to charge a penalty for breaking the lease early.
Have been back to the building and it looks like it’s back up and running, but awful experience.
Too bad I didn’t know my rights as a tenant and how to use 311 the time.

The best apartment situation I’ve been in in New York, but still could be better
Former Tenant
Pros:
Amazing natural light, good views, great location, decent price, incredible roof deck
Cons:
Fake plants out front, elevator breaks often, packages get stolen often, apartments are small, building is built somewhat poorly
Advice to owner:
There needs to be either security cameras or security at the front door, so people don’t sneak into the building to hangout on the roof or steal packages
