Pros:
The unit is private, only share the building w barbershop on 1fl. The apartment is very big and has nice windows in bedrooms. Stairs are very nice (but not dog friendly)
Cons:
Alot.
Biggest issue by far is the heating/cooling/utilities. We were paying up to $1000/mo in utilities, and this was using the heat/AC at a bare minimum. Landlord blamed it on faulty HVAC unit and kept promising to have it repaired/replaced, never did except when it totally broke down (twice). But it was more than that. All the hot/cold air pours out of the uninsulated wall and glass with broken seals in the front of the building, you can feel a STRONG draft all winter. We were paying absurd utility bills to be cold. I contacted the landlord every 2-4 weeks to remind him of the issue and was ignored or got snotty responses. He eventually felt enough compassion to give us a $300 check made out to con-ed.
Other issues: -bad landlord -water issue in entryway, leaks alot when raining, huge water stains on wall, mold growing -Backyard is unbearable due to mosquitos nesting under the leaking hvac unit. Unit is also very loud. -garbage: can only bring outside on pickup days. Keep it in the backyard and youll end up dragging wet garbage bags through the apt -big heavy custom blind in entryway is dangerous. One of us was gently using the chain to lower it early in our time there and it came crashing down. Seemed like the bracket on one side failed due to water damage. Landlord never had it reinstalled, until ~1 week after we moved out. -need to unlock front door with a key from the inside, major fire hazard -poor air quality, air filters had never?!? Been changed and ducts never cleaned -kitchen is very awkward -common rooms have awkward layout and no natural light -ceiling tiles look like they needed to be replaced 10 years ago -final insult: being charged $150 from security to paint one wall (after i spackled and sanded)
Im sure I could go on with complaints but writing this much has already put me in a bad mood. I hope nobody else has to deal with what we did there.
Advice to owner:
You know what needs to be done to the building to make it livable. Fix the problems or sell the property. Cant band-aid issues like that. What you put us through felt criminal.
