Good place but not cared-for
Former Tenant
Pros:
Great location in a quiet part of Astoria. Close to stores, transportation, restaurants.
Cons:
Landlords are responsive, but they are very cheap and do only the minimum (usually ineffective) work by themselves rather than investing to solve underlying issues or care for the house in the long run. State of the unit (top floor) / issues we encountered: 1. Mice in the walls. (We were told that mice were coming from the construction taking place in the adjacent unit of the row houses. Landlords tried a bit of caulking and gave us some glue traps and poison. We never saw any mice inside the unit or in the traps, but continued to hear scratching noises inside the walls occasionally, including long after the construction was over.) 2. Leaking windows. (Water gets in along the window frames in the living room and pools on the windowsills. Landlords just painted over the window frames. They still leak in heavy rain.) 3. Crumbling sound from inside walls. (Frequently heard small chunks inside walls coming loose and tumbling down to rest.) 4. Suspected mold. (Given the structural issues and potential water / mouse damage, we started to see mold around cracks by windows. We cleaned it ourselves. After the landlords painted, there were less visible traces, but it could still be smelled after rain. When we asked them to take the issue seriously, landlords claimed they needed us out to do extensive work on the walls. But the day after we moved out, the place is listed again.)
