Cockroaches and bad landlords
Pros
The stained glass windows gave it character.
Cons
I was woken up by a cockroach crawling on my arm at 5:30am. I don’t keep food in my room so there was obviously an infestation since we had seen some in the kitchen during the daytime two weeks prior. They didn’t reply for over a day. I moved out a month after that since I had such a hard time falling asleep there and they still hadn’t scheduled pest control to come out. They said that they couldn’t schedule pest control to come since the exterminators were overwhelmed right now. I think there are quite literally hundreds of pest control companies. They couldn’t call around to find one who’s available? Apparently the last time they had even hired pest control was three years ago, so don’t expect a lot of upkeep on the apartment. When it was time for our lease renewal, they raised it and refused to fix our bathtub. The seal was cracked and pealing and the mat placed on the basin of the tub so you’re not stepping on the cracked tub just trapped moldy water. They said they wouldn’t fix it until they had completely new tenants move in. The floor in the kitchen was uneven and had cracked tile. The stairwell is slanted and it doesn’t bode well for the longevity and durability of the building. When the deadbolt to open the basement for the laundry room, which used a keypad to unlock, wasn’t working, they were very condescending when I told them it was broken. I sent a video showing it was broken, which they didn’t watch, and told me it was just finicky. The week before I had moved in, the ceiling had a leak. The roof has so many patches and is not graded where the water will drain, so pool of water just sit up there after it rains, which means you’ll inevitably get another leak again. The stained glass windows are buckling in the bedroom and have plastic sealed over it. The hardwood floors are in an awful state. The seal is broken in so many places leaving these dark patches on the floor. The neighbor’s dog barks nonstop whenever someone opens the door to the building or you open your apartment door. It’s so annoying and they never stop or train their dog. If every time you come home from work you want to be greeted by a dog barking at you then sure, move here. They do the bare minimum to upkeep the apartment.
Advice to the owners
Fix things when a tenant raises an issue. You seem so lazy and want to downplay every problem.
