Not horrible, but wouldn't live here again
Former Tenant
Pros:
For what we were paying, what we got was great. We had laundry, access to the basement and a backyard. Great location about a five minute walk from the M and a 15 minute walk from the L. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, and the other tenants in the building were all very nice and respectful. After it was very rainy or snowy, they always had someone come in to sweep and mop the hallways and stairs. I thought that was nice.
Cons:
Upon move in our unit was dirty. They had newly renovated it which was nice, but there was dust everywhere. The toilets were dirty. You can tell they didn't put a lot of effort into cleaning it after renovations. Even though our superintendent was supposed to be available 24/7, he only answered his phone during normal business hours. Whenever he came to fix things (which was often) he didn't often schedule ahead of time. He would just knock on the door or text and say he was outside. Not the end of the world but extremely annoying when you're not prepared to let someone into your home. Within the first three weeks of moving in our toilet clogged. The superintendent kept "fixing" it but it would continue to clog. It took about two months to get a professional plumber out to actually address the problem. Pretty sure the windows aren't up to code. They are SO drafty. Our heaters would be running 24/7 and the rooms would still be freezing. Definitely had a couple $400 electricity bills. Our bathroom ceiling rained water every once in a while. Apparently the unit on the third floor had flooded before we moved in and since they never fully fixed the issue whenever it would rain really hard, the water would leak down the building into our bathroom. We're thinking there is somehow water trapped within the building itself but not exactly sure. I stopped asking for that to be fixed because I realized the management will say whatever you want to hear but rarely follow through. Right before Christmas 2021 the power in our building went out. It went out on a Tuesday and wasn't fixed until that Friday. At the time it was in the low 20s outside. It was a ConEd issue, but management didn't contact ConEd until the morning it was fixed. So about two and a half days without power in the middle of winter. There's probably a lot more I'll experience, my lease isn't up for about eight more months. But I've already experienced enough to write the review they deserve.
Advice to owner:
Bring the building up to code and stop giving your tenants the run around.
