Worst landlord, he will harass you and hit you
Former Tenant
Pros:
The neighborhood is quiet, close to everything you need and fairly easy to get to Manhattan. It feels like a suburb and very safe besides the occasional unwanted cat calling, it’s a very decent neighborhood.
Cons:
Where can I start: I have to put this into categories.
-it’s a family house so the owner, his boyfriend and his mother in law live downstairs and they rent the rooms upstairs. I am currently occupying two rooms in the upstairs apartment for over a year and half now. - the owner has some stuff in the apartment which he never cleans, it’s disgusting to look at and when I confronted him about it he tried to hit me. Very violent owner. His boyfriend kicked him out and asked me not to call the cops. - we’ve had a rodent problem the last month and half. We caught over 6 of them. He doesn’t want to repair or clean up his dirty clutter in the house. When we clean up he got upset started yelling and told me to get out of his house. - owner claims he only likes to rent to undocumented people so he can bring whoever to the unit without letting them know and he can kick them out when he feels like it. - doesn’t do repairs, I had to put a complaint with NYC which he learned about it and his reaction is over the top. - there is mold, roaches problem before of all the construction he is doing in his illegal basement. Brought up all the pest and rodents you can imagine. - the appliances are infested with rodents and the cabinets in the kitchen because he refused to clean up or fix anything. - there is water damage in the rooms that he refused to fix. - the apartments is furnished with old dirty furniture.
Advice to owner:
Stop treating people like you’re their master. We’re paying you rent and the repairs we ask for are reasonable and it is your house and investment. Because you treat undocumented renters like shit you will have to deal with the mayor’s office and all the complaints I put in the city and soon with court
