Best thing about it is the landlord!
Former Tenant
Pros:
Landlord Stephen is AWESOME. Really great guy; old school style NYC landlord, but actually CARES about his tenants!! Literally the best. Everyone loves him.
The handyman, Frank, is also great! His response times are very fast compared to what you get in most NYC apartments, and his work is FAR superior to the usual basic patch up jobs you get from most supers/handymen.
Pretty clean for such an old building.
Tenants are pretty quiet and respectful of each other.
Cons:
The roaches. Hey, the building is more than 100 years old, so it makes sense. Landlord sends an exterminator to every unit the first Saturday of every month, which really does help. That being said, we Raid often as well, keep a very clean house, and they’re still a problem. ESPECIALLY in the summer.
The “trash alley” downstairs/outside is gross at best.
The heat situation isn’t great. Gets cold in the winter. Going to use a thermometer this year, because I think it’s below the legally required temperature.
Advice to owner:
Is there an additional something you could do about the roaches? They really are bad. Otherwise, nothing! You’re great!!
