Do not rent-Money Pit
Former Tenant
Pros:
Outside terrace is spacious if you can afford to furnish it.
Cons:
Live in landlord and partner below apartment are always home and up at all hours but complains when you walk around too much or makes any noise. Did not fix doorbell that was functioning at time of move in for entirety of lease. Apartment heat is and stove is electric and not included, costs up to $700/month with Con Ed during winter for heat and summer for air. Apartment is not sealed properly, freezing in winter and suffocating during summer. Carpets are disgusting, stained and old. Landlord did not clean apartment before move in date, dust, dirt grime in all rooms, carpets not professionally cleaned. Landlord would not disclose when the last tenant had lived there. Con Edison told me 5 years. Enters outdoor terrace area without giving notice, does not disclose when he is working on roof of house. Does not clean stairwell. Refuses to fix hallway light bulb at entrance of home even though he lives there. There are plumbing issues, toilet backed up for several months, never called plumber after failing to fix it himself. Would request rent after 10pm and take money in small dark hallway. Very uncomfortable, extremely unprofessional and flat out creepy. Had to ask multiple times at move in to raise temperature of hot water after he would lower it. It feels like you're being spied on while living there. Biggest con: prior to signing lease agreed to allow a roommate and then after lease signing tried to illegally hustle an extra $500 dollars for the roommate per month. Uses threatening tactics. There is a raccoon problem in neighborhood, doesnt buy proper trash bins, I would find personal trash spread on the ground every garbage day. Harassed me for rent after losing job during covid 19.
Advice to owner:
Don't rent your home if you have control issues.
