You get what you pay for
Pros
Rent is cheap; less than $2000 for a 3-4 bedroom apartment. Close to transportation, groceries, restaurants, etc.
Cons
Water damage. During heavy rainfall the ceiling leaks water, which overtime can be hazardous to tenant’s living on top floor. Pest problem: mice, silverfish, centipedes. Windows do not stay open without something supporting it. Landlord turns on heat when he feels it is the right time. Problematic neighbors downstairs; when addressed to landlord he is in no way helpful.
Advice to the owners
Stop being cheap.
