RATS RATS RATS
Former Tenant
Pros:
Nice old building with great vintage features, original wood floors (a little uneven but the building is quite old)
Cons:
Rodents in apartment. MULTIPLE in my mother's unit on the ground floor alone. The building needs a full time exterminator because there must be multiple entry points for them all over. You can hear rats crawling in the walls; watch them watching you as they often come in the bathroom while you are sitting there; you can see them crawling up the walls in the bedroom and hear them in the kitchen behind appliances. Waiting for appliance cords to fail because of chewing. They must be getting in from the walls somewhere and my guess is that crevices behind appliances in the kitchen are a likely spot; windows, under the door to the apartment, etc.
Advice to owner:
Fix it. Get an exterminator ASAP. The building is not legally uninhabitable per the City of Brooklyn since there are rats in the place. I can't bring my mother home from the nursing home because of this. It is very frustrating.

Pre-war building on edge of Midwood/Flatbush
Former Tenant
Pros:
The super was nice and responsive, and my neighbors were quiet. The local Q train is nearby, and there are good bagels and a nice kosher bakery on Ave J. The ceilings are tall and the rooms are relatively large.
Cons:
Heat in the bedroom during the winter was always a huge problem. It was awful. Also, the window in the bedroom is on a fire escape, which means you can’t install an AC unit there. So, cold in the winter and hot during the summer. Occasionally I would see residents smoking in the hallways.
ALSO: the building is a co-op! This is super shady because (1) I was never told this when signing the lease, (2) I found out after the rent was raised by a huge percentage, and (3) it’s not treated like a co-op.
