Pretty on the Outside, Falling Apart Inside
Former Tenant
Pros:
Great space! There are 4 large bedrooms and a huge living room, plus two full bathrooms. There is also roof access! It’s close to Fordham University and to Arthur Ave so if you’re a student it might be worth the cons.
Cons:
No one is taking care of it. We kept getting notices that the electricity would be shut off because the landlord wasn’t paying the property bill (not our unit). There were no smoke detectors in some rooms. When we asked for smoke detectors the super brought us what were clearly very old smoke detectors. There were 2 leaks in the ceiling when we lived there. Super was supposed to take out the trash to the curb but never did and the overflowing trash in the backyard lead to a massive rat infestation. The basement was also full of old things from past tenants, including food, that should’ve been thrown out. Washer and dryer in basement were often broken. It’s super drafty so some rooms were always freezing cold. This really just scratches the surface.
Advice to owner:
Just do the bare minimum. Pay your bills and make sure the trash makes it to the curb.
