Fine apartment but negligent owners
Former Tenant
Pros:
I mostly enjoyed living in 304 W 147th Street from 2018-2020 and found the location to be very convenient and apartment to be adequate. It was a good price for a small, one-bedroom room which is what I wanted although I came to find the layout was actually too small for me coming from more spacious Brooklyn apartments. But there were never major issues with the apartment beyond what I'll list in the Cons
Cons:
During my time from 2018-2020, I found the building management to be very neglectful. Our building was the scene of a crime investigation when someone was shot and rolled up into a carpet left for dead in the nearby Starbucks garbage pile. I believe this was directly a result of the management not fixing the building's main lobby doors that were broken and open to anyone who wanted to come inside. Having an open area for laundry also made it easy for non-residents to come in. I also had many issues with my bathroom including dripping from the ceilings and when I saw my ceiling beginning to cave in from water above, management said they would send a super by a specific time since I needed to leave by then. My bathroom ceiling ultimately did collapse in, I waited for the super until the designated time and when I attempted to leave the building, the super was on the stoop chatting to friends
Advice to owner:
Listen and act promptly when your residents reach out with issues. I did not contact management unless it was emergencies such as packages being stolen or the bathroom ceiling issue
