Lotsa space if you can handle the cold
Former Tenant
Pros:
The building is normally pretty clean. My apartment is a great size. The neighbors seem nice. The neighborhood itself is filled with community if you actively get to know folks. Its close to the train.
Cons:
For the price it isn’t worth the space due to the noise level and lack of insulation. Our unit is always cold because they did not properly insulate this unit and supposedly the one next to us so every winter our heating bill is through the roof. 500 dollars or more added to our already very high rent for months at a time if we choose to heat the apartment reguarly. Alot of Times we sit in the cold to save on costs. Also, you can hear everyones conversations, events, fights, and parties. The walls are hollow so that is something you would have to deal with. The Landlords response time on things can be slow but they will eventually get it done. Also our rent jumped from 2650 to 3000 this year. That feels like a crazy jump. Not sure how it will go over time with these astronomical rent increases.
Advice to owner:
Spend the money and insulate and sound proof the building and I do believe you would have longterm rental tenants because overall the building isnmt terrible.

Not a bad place to live
Former Tenant
Pros:
TV in living room and individual rooms provided by landlord, responsive to pest control, clean entryway, decent price.
Cons:
Lots and lots of cockroaches and mice in our apartment, pest control concluded another tenant’s habits were the cause. Landlord couldn’t do much about it but offered us no rent raise if we wanted to stay. Rooms are really really small, other tenants in the building are really disrespectful to their neighbors. The apartment next to us had a couple screaming at each other all hours of the day and night and the apartment below us was playing super loud dance music all day and all night. Both apartments would not respond well to other tenants asking them to be quiet. Verbal altercations ensued.
Advice to owner:
I know there’s not a whole lot you can do about how tenants act. I just wish there were a way for you to enforce noise or cleanliness. I would have definitely re signed if there were respectful people living in the building.
